Charles Octavius Boothe was born in Mobile county, Alabama on June 13, 1845, the year the Baptists of America divided. Boothe was baptized in March, 1866 by Rev. O. D. Bowen, of Shubuta, Mississippi. He was ordained in December, 1868. Boothe served as pastor at the First Colored Baptist Church, Meridian, MS, and the Dexter Avenue Church in Montgomery, AL. Boothe was also a teacher in the public school system in Alabama.
