Episcopal Church. Diocese of North Carolina. Convocation of the Colored People
Memorial of the Convocation of the Colored People in the Diocese of North Carolina Presented to the Diocesan Convention of 1916.
[S. l.: s. n.], 1916.
This proposal, presented to the Episcopal Bishop and Convention of North Carolina in 1916, argued for the creation of a separate Episcopal Church for African Americans within the existing church organization. By doing so, the committee hoped to ease social tensions within the church and hoped to share in the success experienced by other denominations that had established separate administrative church structures for African American churches.
