Tyrell County Marker, Columbia
The Tyrell County marker is a short lectern shaped granite block with a smooth face and roughhewn rear and sides. Covering most of the block’s face is a rectangular metal plaque holding the inscription.

THE 3RD YEAR OF THE REIGN OF / KING GEORGE II, AND NAMED FOR SIR JOHN / TYRELL OF ESSEX, ENGLAND, ONE OF THE / LORD PROPRIETORS OF CAROLINA. THIS / MARKER DEDICATED BY THE COUNTY OF / TYRELL ON NOVEMBER 27, 1979, THE 250TH / ANNIVERSARY OF ITS FOUNDING.

The marker is located on the grounds of the Tyrell County Courthouse, 403 Main Street, Columbia, NC. The marker is situated at the left corner of the courthouse at the handicap ramp. The Tyrell County War Memorial stands on the lawn to the left and the Tyrell County Confederate Memorial is to the right of the courthouse.
The memorial marker stands on the lawn surrounded by seasonal plants.
