Craven County War Memorial, New Bern
The gray and black granite memorial stands in memory of citizens of Craven County who lost their lives in the Korean, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan wars. It is comprised of four panels. The left panel with the primary inscription is trapezoid shaped gray granite and holds an incised American flag above the inscription. The center-left panel is a narrow black granite rectangle or column shape and holds low-relief coats of arms from the five branches of the military. Top to bottom are Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Merchant Marines. The center-right panel is a gray granite trapezoid with names of the deceased from the Korean War, Vietnam and Persian Gulf War. The right side panel is a gray granite parallelogram with names from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The four panels step down in height from left to right and stand on a single stone base.

The memorial is located on the grounds of the Craven County Courthouse. The courthouse street address is 302 Broad Street in New Bern. Other memorials on the grounds include those to Abner Nash, Richard Dobbs Spaight, Sr., Richard Dobbs Spaight, Jr., Craven County World War I and World War II Memorial, and the Purple Heart Memorial.
The Craven County Courthouse is surrounded by the well-maintained lawn, shady trees, and seasonal plants.
