Sir:
Having been appointed by Excellency General Greene, Commercial Agent for the Army in this Department, I am called thus far to endeavor to procure a temporary supply of rum, &c., and to forward by water to George Town in South Carolina such public stores as I may find here; and being informed that there are public stores furnished by the State at Pitch Landing, I have taken the liberty of proposing to your Excellency to have them forwarded by a vessel that will shortly sail from that place with Continental Stores.
Mr. Banks has undertaken the management of this business and by an order from you will also put on board any goods you may direct. I shall go immediately to George Town by land and have wagons ready to transport them to the Army.
