Newbern 22d Decr 1770.

Colonel James Sampson,

There being reasons to apprehend that the Insurgents may come down to Newbern to attempt to interrupt the Legislative Body now convened, I am to require you forthwith to give orders to the several Captains in your Regiments to hold their respective Companies in readiness to march on the earliest notice in support of the Peace and Safety of the Government.

You will at the same time appoint some convenient place for the Rendezvous of the whole Regiment that you may be able to assemble them as soon as possible when required.
