Letter from William Tryon to Richard Caswell
Tryon, William, 1729-1788

Volume 08, Page 692

Newbern 21st Febry 1771.

Colonel Richard Caswell.

I thank you for your punctuality in sending me intelligence of the Regulators as well as for your prudence in the conduct of your Regiment. I should have been glad to have seen Colonel Bryan could he conveniently have proceeded on to Newbern. His intelligence wch you communicate to me of the Regulators' return to their Settlements was sufficient reason for your dismissing your Regiment. Should they make any further attempt to come to Newbern I approve of your and Colonel Bryan's determination to oppose them—You will send me the particulars of the Expences incurred by your Regiment.
