In Council of Safety No. Carolina 4 July 1776

Sir,

Your favour of the 18 of last month we receive & in pursuance

thereto. have dispatched the paymaster for this Province whose arrival we hope will stop the Clamours of the Troops. We are from the information of our Delegates truly concerned that the Light Horse Companies raised in this Province are not put on the Continental Establishment, the Congress are unacquainted with the Utility of such Troops in the Southern part of this Continent We beg the favour of you to represent to the Congress the absolute necessity of such Establishment at the same time to recommend in the strongest manner that they be on pay of the Contenant
