CHAS. MEDLOCK TO GOV. CASWELL.
[From Executive Letter Book.]

Anson County, April 1st 1777.

Sir:—

I think it a duty incumbent on me to acquaint your Excellency, that the books & papers of the Register's office of this County, that were taken from Lieut. Coln. Cotton's, in March 1776, have been in my care ever since that time, ten days only excepted. I should esteem the appointment of my son Israel to that office as a particular favour conferr'd by your Excellency on me; & beg leave to assure your Excellency, that he is fully capable of filling that office with credit, & ready to give the necessary securities.

I have the honor to be your Excellency's most humble & most obed. serv't
CHAS. MEDLOCK.
