Dear Sir:—

I take this opportunity to send you a return of recruits, recruited by the officers of the 3d Battalion which I have neglected doing for this month past. I should have sent you a return before now, but I had not an opportunity of doing it, and was not able to come myself as I have been very unwell for this month past, and I hope you will not take it amiss. I would be glad if it were convenient that you would let my father Howell Edmunds have another warrant, upon the Treasury for the sum of five hundred dollars more for me, as my other five hundred is out, and I was obliged to advance money out of my own pocket to pay off the Recruits.
