JAS. PORTERFIELD TO GOV. JOHNSTON.
[From Executive Letter Book.]

Fayetteville, June 26th, 1788.

Sir:

Your favour of the 29th of May has only come to hand a few days ago, which is the first and the only time I have heard from you on the subject of the Tobacco.

-------------------- page 480 --------------------

My return must without doubt have arrived at Edenton before this time, as it went by Post from Wilmington near three weeks ago.

Agreeable to your Orders, the Tobacco shall be shipped and stored at Wilmington, although I shall not be able to get it down immediately, owing to the river being low at this season.

I have the honor, &c., &c.,
JAS. PORTERFIELD.
