CAPT. ALEXANDER BREVARD 3RD REGT. TO GENERAL SUMNER.

Ramsaur’s Mill, 14th August, ’82.

Sir:

I have attended at this place since the first of this month. Orders from Genl. McDowell to the Colonels were for the Troops of Morgan District to Rendezvous at this place the 20th Instant. I shall attend and do everything in my power, but I am insufficient (myself alone) for the Task, & not one officer has Joined me yet. I hear Lieut. Alexander is ordered by Major Armstrong to join me

but he’s not come yet, & I think I ought to have at least one other. I should be glad to receive orders from you if you think necessary respecting the march, which I don’t expect to be able to move from this place before the first of Sept. I have sent to Salisbury for Salt; if I get none from that place I don’t expect any until I get to Head Quarters.

I am with respect & esteem,
Yours to serve,
ALEXANDER BREVARD.
Capt. 3rd. N. Carolina Regt.
