COUNCIL JOURNALS.

North Carolina—ss.

Edenton Febry 25th 1730/1

Pursuant to his Majestys Royall Com̄ ision and instructions Constituting & appointing his Excellency George Burrington Esqr Govr Capt Generall and Com̄ ander in Chief of the Province and Territory of North Carolina the same was read and published and His Excellency thereon in Council took & subscribed the severall Oaths by law appointed for Qualification of Publick officers as Also the the oath for the due Execution of Justice Reposed in him Equall administration of Justice and due observance of the Laws of Trade and thereupon his Excellency took his Place at the board accordingly

William Smith Joseph Jenoure & Robert Halton Esqrs appointed by his Majesties Royall instructions Members of Council for this Province appeared and took & subscribed the several oaths by Law appointed for Qualification of Publick officers and their places at the board accordingly.


At a council held at the council Chamber in Edenton ye 25th day of Febry Anno Domini 1731

His Excellency the Governor was pleased to order that a Proclamation Issue for continuing officers and magistrates both military and Civill within the Province till his Excellencys Pleasure be further known therein.

Hiss Excelly the Govr produced to this Board a Commission from the right Honble the Lords of the Admiralty Constituting and appointing him vice Admiral of his Majesties Province of North Carolina

Adjourned till tomorrow morning Eight of ye Clock

The Honoble Robert Halton} Esqre Member of His Majesties Council

His Excellency the Governour Representing to this board the necessity of calling together the Genl Assembly of this Province to Enact and make such Laws as shall as shall be for his Majesties Service and the good of the people within the same thereupon his Excelly the Govr by and with the advice and Consent of his Majesties council doth order that Writs forthwith Issue requiring the ffreeholders in the several and respective precincts and Towns within this Province to Choose their Representatives on Tuesday the 23d day of March Orderd that Proclamation Issue requireing the General Assembly of this Province to meet at Edenton on Tuesday the 13th day of April next an all persons concerned are to take notice thereof accordingly.

Ordered that Mr Joseph Anderson do act for Nathaniel Rice Esqr Secretary of this Province till his arrival here or some person Lawfully Deputed by him and in all cases till farther orders.

Ordered That John Lovick Esqr Late Secretary of This Province do forthwith deliver up all papers and records relating to the Secretarys office unto Joseph Anderson appointed by the Govr and Council to recieve the same
