Know all men by these presents that I John Swann of the County of New Hanover and province aforesaid am held and firmly bound unto the Honourable Matthew Rowan Esqr President and Commander in Chief of the province of North Carolina for the time being and his successors in the sum of five thousand pounds Proclamation Money to be paid to the said president and Commander in Chief and his successors for the use of the Publick Unto which payment well and truly to be made and done I bind me my heirs Executors and Administrators firmly by these presents seal'd with my seal and dated this Third day of May 1754

The Condition of the above Obligation is Such that Whereas the above named John Swann is by Act of Assembly passed at Wilmington the ninth day of March in the year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred fifty four oppointed one of the Commissioners for stamping and Emitting the sum of forty thousand pounds publick bills of Credit equal in value to proclamation Money now if the said John Swann shall duely and faithfully Discharge the trust by the Publick reposed in him according to Law as Commissioner aforesaid then the above Obligation to be void or Else to be and remain in full force and virtue and authority in the Law
