John Ballanfant (1820–1900) of Culleoka, TN, entered the University in 1841, joined the Dialectic Society, and graduated with third honors in 1844. He married Eliza Estes Turner (1827–1903) in October 1844; they were the parents of 13 children. Ballanfant returned to Tennessee, where he became a planter and member of the Tennessee General Assembly. Dusenbery sometimes refers to him as "Fauks."
