
George Washington Ruffin (1822-1862) of Franklin County, NC, was the son of Mary Tartt (1791-1879) and Col. Henry John Gray (1782-1854) Ruffin. George entered the University in 1838, joined the Philanthropic Society, and graduated in 1842. He received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania’s Medical Department in 1846 and became a farmer and physician in Louisburg, NC.
