Adelaide Stuart Dimitry
War-Time Sketches: Historical and Otherwise
New Orleans, La.: Louisiana Printing Co. Press, [1911?].
Adelaide Stuart, a relative of J. E. B. Stuart, was born in Mississippi. She married Professor John Dimitry, and moved to Louisiana, where she served as the historian of the New Orleans chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She published War-Time Sketches: Historical and Otherwise (1911), a collection of several oral histories and documents about the Civil War. The stories, which depict New Orleans during the Confederacy, are accompanied by documents and lists of interviewees. Dimitry closes with a description of "Mr. C—" and his slaves as a Federal officer reads the emancipation proclamation to them.
