COMMUNICATION FROM THE COMMISSIONER OF INDIAN
AFFAIRS.

C. S. A., WAR DEPARTMENT, OFFICE OF INDIAN AFFAIRS,
Richmond, February 3d, 1863.

Hon. JAMES A. SEDDON, Secretary of War:

SIR: I have the honor to transmit herewith estimates of appropriations necessary to meet the expenses of the Indian Service to June 30th, 1863.

The accumulation of business in this office, during an absence of four months on my part, in visiting the Indians west of Arkansas, joined with matters growing out of that mission, which required prompt attention, has prevented me from preparing and submitting these papers at an earlier day.

Very respectfully,
Your obedient servant,

S. S. SCOTT, Commissioner of Indian Affairs.
