Excerpt from | Oral History Interview with Joseph A. Herzenberg, November 18, 1985. Interview K-0008. Southern Oral History Program Collection (#4007) |
Herzenberg denies that he is insensitive to the exertion of government power over citizens, or to the plight of even a small number of people being displaced to build the Cane Creek reservoir. He maintains, however, that creating a reservoir could preserve the beauty of the area long-term by keeping it out of the hands of developers. He relates a similar initiative that resulted in welcome environmental protections in his hometown area in New Jersey.
