Raymond remembers the agricultural life of his childhood

This excerpt offers a bit of agricultural history. Raymond English, now over ninety years old, remembers growing strawberries (as his father did), cucumbers, tomatoes, and tobacco. He makes strawberries seem like an essential community crop—the first money he earned came from picking strawberries.
