Electric power comes slowly to Madison County

Plemmons describes the gradual infiltration of electricity (thanks to Carolina Power and Light) into Madison County. Power arrived so slowly that it hardly revolutionized rural life, although Plemmons remembers the new convenience of cold milk in warm weather.
