Plemmons describes his mixed reaction to planned road-building near Marshall. He welcomes it for practical reasons—the current road is dangerous, he thinks—but also hopes it will bring some economic development. Economic growth can also drive some residents out, though, as rising home values allow them to sell and move to more convenient locations.
