Excerpt from | Oral History Interview with Jerry Plemmons, November 10, 2000. Interview K-0506. Southern Oral History Program Collection (#4007) |
Plemmons discusses some of the challenges Marshall faces as development and road-building open it to change. Plemmons hopes his community can find balance between fruitful use of the environment and its preservation, between protecting old values and being open to new ones, and between growing economic opportunity and continued community solidarity. Old residents must be open to new ideas and new residents to old ones.
