Know all Men by these Presents, That We William B Mears, A. M. Hooper, Gabl. Holmes Jr., & Wm. Watts Jones are held and firmly bound unto the Trustees of the University of North Carolina , in the just and full sum of five thousand pounds current money: for the true payment of which we bind ourselves jointly, severally and firmly. Sealed with our seals and dated this 10th day of May A.D. 1818.
The Condition of the above obligation is this, that whereas the above bounden William B Mears hath been appointed by the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina their Attorney in the District composed of the counties of New Hanover, Brunswick, Bladen, Duplin, Onslow, Sampson, and Columbus.
Now if the said William B Mears shall well and truly receive and take into his possession all such monies or other property of what kind or nature soever, which the Trustees of the University may have right unto, arising or which have arisen by escheat or otherwise to the said Trustees, within the counties composing the District aforesaid: and account for and pay the same to the Treasurer of the Board of Trustees, after deducting therefrom the commissions and charges allowed by the Board: then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
