AN ORDINANCE
To supply the place of Trustees who shall fail to discharge the duties as such for a certain time.
WHEREAS it is essential to the interest of the Institution, that each Member of the Board should contribute to its welfare by his personal services;
Be it ordained by the Trustees of the University of North-Carolina
, That whenever a Trustee shall fail to attend the Board for the space of two years, his place shall be vacated, and it shall and may be lawful for the Board at the next annual meeting thereafter, to ballot for and appoint one other Trustee in his place: Provided always, that the Trustee so failing to attend, shall be permitted to render an excuse to the Board, for his non-attendance at any time previous to the appointment of his successor, which excuse shall be heard, and adjudged by the Board: Provided also, that if any Trustee shall be necessarily absent from the State for the term aforesaid, and his common residence still be considered in the State, his place shall not be vacated thereby.
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Board have the above Ordinance printed, and that he furnish each Member of the Board with a copy.
