                <p>The Pres<hi rend="sup">t</hi> laid before the Committee a political essay of
                    Prof. <name key="pn0000708" reg="Hedrick, Benjamin Sherwood" type="person">B. S.
                        Hedrick's</name> published in the N. Carolina Standard of the 4<hi rend="sup">th</hi> instant together with sundry letters &amp; papers
                    relating thereto, whereupon</p>
                <p>Resolved that the <name key="name0000352" reg="Executive Committee, Board of                         Trustees" type="organization">Executive Committee</name> have seen with
                    great regret the publication of <name key="pn0000708" reg="Hedrick, Benjamin                         Sherwood" type="person">Prof. Hedrick</name> in the Standard of the 4<hi rend="sup">th</hi> inst.; because it violates the established usage of the
                        <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">University</name> which forbids any Professor to become an Agitator in the
                    exciting politics of the day; &amp; is well calculated to injure the
                    prosperity &amp; usefulness of the Institution.</p>
                <p>Resolved that the prompt action of a majority of the Faculty of the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">University</name> on the 6<hi rend="sup">th</hi> in. meets with the cordial
                    approbation of this<name key="name0000352" reg="Executive Committee, Board of                         Trustees" type="organization"> Committee</name>.</p>

                <p>Resolved that in the Opinion of this <name key="name0000352" reg="Executive                     Committee, Board of Trustees" type="organization">Committee</name> M<hi rend="sup">r</hi> <name key="pn0000708" reg="Hedrick, Benjamin Sherwood" type="person">Hedrick</name> has greatly, if not entirely destroyed
                    his power to be of further benefit to the <name key="name0001146" reg="University                         of North Carolina" type="organization">University</name> in the office which
                    he now fills.</p>
                <p>The President also laid before the <name key="name0000352" reg="Executive Committee,                         Board of Trustees" type="organization">Committee</name> a supplemental
                    memorial &amp; statement of M<hi rend="sup">r</hi> <name key="pn0000733" reg="Harrisse, Henry" type="person">H. Herrisse</name> the Instructor in
                    French, in addition to that of the last meeting, setting forth a want of
                    discipline &amp; maladministration of the affairs &amp; government of
                    the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">College</name> by the Faculty; &amp; he submitted also a copy of the
                    Journal of the Faculty in pursuance of a Resolution of the last meeting
                    &amp; other papers relating to this subject, when it was ordered that the
                    whole matter be laid upon the Table.</p>
                <p>Ordered that the Secretary furnish the President with a copy of the foregoing
                    minutes to be laid before the Faculty— </p>
                <p>Committee adjourned.</p>
