Letter to the Board of Trade

Admty Office 21st April 1766

Having communicated to my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty your Letter of the 21st October last, relative to a Duel that was fought between Lieut. Whitehurst and Mr Simpson, two Officers of the Navy, in which the former was killed, I am to acquaint you, that the Navy Board having been made acquainted therewith, in order to their taking such Notice of Mr Simpson's behaviour as the nature of the Case required, They have reported, that after the 24th June 1765 (which is the date of Lieut. Governor Tryon's Letter upon this Subject,) Mr Simpson being recovered of the wounds he received in the Duel, voluntarily returned and surrender'd himself to the Governor, and in October following was tryed and acquitted of the charge.
