LETTER FROM R. HOWE TO GOV. CASWELL.

Charleston 31st Jan'y. 1777.

Dear Sir:

Upon the resignation of Mr. Jones of the Light Horse I appointed Mr. Medici to the rank of Captain till the pleasure of the Convention

of your State was known. I think it but justice to him to add that he has shown himself thro' the whole of his conduct here in such a manner as to merit my approbation and to obtain the respect of the officers whenever he has served. I therefore hope he will have his appointment confirmed, and take the liberty to solicit your interest in his behalf, and am, Dear Sir,

Dear Sir:

Capt. Medici having informed me, since I sealed my letter, that some malicions persons had endeavored to asperse him in North Carolina, please give him a copy of my letter to you if he desires it.
