Letter from the North Carolina House of Commons to Thomas Burke
North Carolina. General Assembly
April 20, 1782
Volume 16, Pages 290-291

TO GOV. THOS. BURKE, ESQ., FROM HOUSE OF COMMONS.
[From Executive Letter Book.]

State of North Carolina.
In the House of Commons,
20th April, 1782.

Sir:

The General Assembly being informed that your Excellency has

issued orders for raising and embodying a number of the Militia in the Districts of New Berne and Edenton to prevent the Enemy from committing depredations on the Sea Coast in those Districts.

If your Excellency has not received any intelligence respecting a descent intended by the Enemy, on the Sea Coast of this State, more than what you have communicated to the General Assembly, they would suggest the impropriety of embodying the Militia in that quarter, as the Enemy have embarked and put to Sea.

THOS. BENBURY, S. C.
By Order,
