Sir:

I have the honor to inform you that the Minister Plenipotentiary

of His Most Christian Majesty yesterday announced to the United States in Congress assembled at a public audience the birth of a Dauphin of France. They were pleased to direct the communication which I have now the honor to make, in order that your Excellency and the people over whom you preside may partake in the joy which an event which so nearly affects the happiness of their great and generous Ally connot fail to diffuse.
