GOV. THOS. BURKE TO HON. JAMES IREDELL.

Halifax, March 13th, 1782.

Dear Sir:

I have received a Letter from the Governor of Virginia in which

he assures me that full satisfaction shall be made to this State for the affront offered to its authority by the Privateers and requesting the whole account of the affair to be sent to him properly authenticated as soon as possible that proper steps may be taken to punish the Captain & turn the Vessel over to our Courts of Admiralty. I request the favor of you to cause depositions to be taken of all the Facts & circumstances from her appearance and reporting to the Commanding Officer of Chowan until her removal from this State. When they are compleat, transmit them, if you please, to me. I beg your pardon for giving you this trouble.
