Murfree’s Landing, 10th Septr., 1782.

Dr. Sir:

I wrote you today respecting the Resolve of Congress in our favour. I mentioned it was the 6th Novr., but made a Mistake, it is the 24th Novembr, I believe, 1778.

The part of the resolve that is in our favour is in the following words in 4th part of the resolve:

∗ ∗ ∗ “All Colonels and Inferior Officers appointed to Vacancies since the fifth day of January, 1777, will take rank from the right of Succession to such vacancies.”

I never had the pleasure to receive your favour before Yesterday.
