Dear General:
The 5th Inst. I had the Honor to Receive your favour and should if possable Obeyed the summons but the third day after was taken so extremely ill that I was not able to git out of my bed with out help, until some time after your appointment at Hillsburrough had Relapsed; have got better since. My Illness was occasioned by a ball I received in my hip at Hadral’s point, which was not extracted, and is become now so very troublesom that it wold be with the greatest pain I cold ride twenty miles on Horse back; but I hope soon to remove the complaint by having the ball taken out.
Lieut. Colonel Lytle has just acquainted me by a line of my exchange. He desires me to apply to you for orders, But I hope Sir my enability of boddy will for the present Excuse me from being called to Camp. Add to this I have neither Horases or money to cary me thare. If thare shold be any duty to do in the District I shold use utmost indeavour to do it.
