Dear Genl.:
I came to this place to-day on my way to Hillsborough, but was informed the Assembly did not meet so shall return home.
I never gave my opinion respecting the arrangement to Major Hogg, as you requested, as I expected to see you at the Assembly. It will suit me to retire agreeable to the resolve of Congress, having a family that cannot do well without my presence. My Circum
stances you are not unacquainted with, so shall be very glad to retire when the arrangement takes place.I heard the day before I left home the vessell that had your Tobacco in, was arrived. I will let you know as soon as she comes up the river.
If you have more Tobacco that you want to ship there is frequent opportunities now.
N. B. I should be much oblige to you to inform me by the bearer whether you think I can retire or not.
