Description The image shows a wood board painted with an aerial view of buildings surrounded by fields and roads with sections of woods and a lake nearby. The board has text to the right of the image which reads, "Burroughs Plantation / from his birth until the end of the Civil War Booker T. Washington lived here in slavery." The display is set up on a bench with a brick half-wall and bushes behind it. The photograph was taken by Robert G. Bruce on June 13, 1970. It was captured at Elmwood Park in Roanoke, Virgina, which is near milepost 121.4 section 1N on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
