The plant was found at Hanging Rock, in Roanoke County, Virginia, along a branch in the woods to the right of the railroad. The photograph was taken by Myrl Brooks on March 11, 1950. Photographer's remarks on photocard: One of our earliest spring flowers often surviving freezing temperatures and appearing somewhat foolish pushing its frozen petals above a late snow. |
