Description | The image shows a blooming midland shooting star (Dodecatheon meadia) plant with dried leaves and sticks on the ground around it. The tips of a person's fingers are also in the image on the right side. The plant was found in Roanoke County, Virginia, on a hillside behind Dixie Caverns entrance. The photograph was taken by Myrl Brooks on April 28, 1950. Photographer's remarks on photocard: "Should not be disturbed under any circumstances as it is quite rare in this region. Known to be found only at Dixie Caverns at the present time." |
