Title Note Drawing No. PKY-BR RK-2063
Date 1946
Description This land map shows proposed land use in the Rocky Knob area of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The map was designed by Vancleve in October of 1946 and was approved by Superintendent Sam P. Weems in January of 1947. The map shows a detailed view of roads, trails, existing and proposed buildings, picnic units, camp units, signs, drinking fountains, water lines, sewer lines, fire hydrants, guard rails, curbing, and rail snake fences. A list of accomodations at the bottom of the map notes the number of picnic and camp units, trailers, and cars will fit into each designated area, and states that hiking trails cover a total of 3 miles. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs through the center and top of the map. On the left side of the map an arrow pointing left states that Smart View is 15 miles, and on the right side an arrow pointing right states that Cumberland Knob is 50 miles. Two areas in the map show tile leaching fields for irrigation of the soil.
