Commentary | This view is from Mayview Manor, an elegant 138 room hotel built in 1921 to attract tourists to Blowing Rock. Tourism was a large industry in Watauga County and a reason that the Blue Ridge Parkway was built. The Blue Ridge Parkway helped fuel business not only at the hotel, but for the tourism industry throughout towns along the parkway. This photograph shows the scenic views the hotel offered. |
