Title Note | Landslide at milepost 377 |
Date | April 5, 1957 |
Description | Photo taken from a hill overlooking an area where there was a landslide and the road has collapsed. Several people and cars are visible. Taken by Robert E. Howe on April 5, 1957 at milepost 377 in Section 2Q of the Blue Ridge Parkway. |
Commentary | This picture is dated the same day as the picture taken at the landslide at milepost 376.5. This could imply that there were several issues with the construction of section 2Q of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Improper or rushed construction could have caused these landslides. The stripping of the land to build roads also could have caused weakening of the soil. These issues had to be dealt with in order to make the Blue Ridge Parkway a safer place for motorists. |
