Commentary | The Blue Ridge Parkway was the first parkway with which the National Park Service was formally involved. Although construction began in 1931 on Skyline Drive, it was not finished until 1951. National Park Service rangers working within the Blue Ridge Parkway are charged with protecting and preserving National Park Service areas. National Park Service rangers fall under two broad categories: interpretive and law enforcement. Ranger residences around the Blue Ridge Parkway provide areas from which National Park Service rangers can administer their duties. |
