About this Item
Title | Right Head Wall 437 |
Date | October 31, 1936 |
Description | Photograph shows a stone culvert and retaining wall near a road with people and an automobile in section 2C of the Blue Ridge Parkway; buildings and fenced land visible on each side of the road. |
Commentary | The other side of the head wall shows the location of where this part of the road was located. There was a lot of controversy surrounding the route the Blue Ridge Parkway would take. Developers did not want commercial development around the road, therefore many of the family farms in the way of development, such as the one visible in this picture, were eventually removed to preserve the image of a state park that developers wanted to preserve. |
