Daniel Alexander Payne, 1811-1893
Daniel Alexander Payne (1811-1893) was the sixth bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church. Before becoming a bishop, he was a successful itinerant minister. He was instrumental in the A.M.E. Church's purchase of Wiberforce University from the Methodist Episcopal (M.E.) Church, and served as its President.
