[From Executive Letter Book.]

Dobbs, 15th Sept. 1777.

I apprehended on receiving your former letter you had committed the error which I find by yours now received by Capt. Rice was a mistake in me: but I was led into it from the circumstance of my not issuing ordinary licences, they being signed by the Clerk of the Court who grants them, and ordered the Letters to be sent to you. If the Letters are not wanting, please to return them, and the fees shall be repaid you. The Ordinary Licences I believe are to be signed by the Chairman or one of the Justices of the Court: the fees are to be received on them to the Gov'r 20 for the use of the State, and countersigned by the Clerk. However you will be pleased to advert to the last act of Assembly for regulating ordinaries, and conform to it. The 15 doll's rec'd pr Capt. Rice are inclosed.

I am &c.
