GOV. THOS. BURKE TO BRIGADIERS RUTHERFORD, LILLINGTON AND CASWELL.

Halifax, March 13th, 1782.

Sir:

Having Resolved with the advice of the Council of State to reduce all the disaffected within this State who openly adhered to the Enemy to the Condition either of Soldiers or Prisoners in order that the State may not be exposed to Injuries from or Individuals Infested by their rapine, and Major Hogg, of our Continentals, being appointed by me to Conduct an Expedition for that purpose, I request you to give him every assistance of Force, Advice, Intelligence & every other in your power & to direct the Officers of Militia under your Command to do the same. Such reinforcements as he will require you will be so good as to order to join him.
